The Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation has done and is doing a highly commendable job of editing and publishing priceless manuscripts, bibliographical and encyclopedic works with the objective of studying and preserving the Islamic written heritage. Its ‘Centre for the Study of the Philosophy of Islamic Law’ (Markaz Dirasat Maqasid al-Shari[ah alIslamiyyah), devoted to the study of the philosophy of Islamic law and its objectives, concerns itself with the publication of bibliographies, edited texts, and organizing symposia, lectures, etc. The present book under review is an important addition to the contribution of this Centre to the study of the universal objectives of the Noble Qur’an. Written in in a catchy and lucid Arabic, the book (originally a lecture) is divided into two main chapters, the first composed of three sections and the second of four, followed by a conclusion, a rich bibliography, and an epilogue by Muhammad [Awwam. As aptly reflected by the title, the book is an attempt to provide a map of the universal objectives of the Noble Qur’an.
