Review

This short, accessible, practical guide is filled with wisdom, direction, prayer, advice and contemplative exercises to further self-development and spiritual growth, providing a useful companion for Christian women. It can be read quickly within an hour, or pondered over and reflected upon in greater depth. It is a book that can be referred to on a frequent basis, whenever inspiration or guidance is needed. The book forms part of a series of twenty-four study guides written specifically as learning or teaching aids targeting Christian women, each focusing on one or two particular aspects of spiritual development, derived directly from biblical sources. The contribution under discussion here centres on two attributes: faith and worship. It starts from the premise that the worship of God is not separate from everyday existence, but in order to assist the development of a rich, deep and meaningful relationship with God it has to be an intrinsic part of everyday life. Faith is understood in terms of developing a deep trust in the care and providence of God: to walk a path, knowing it is directed by God, without knowing the destination. ‘Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see’ (Hebrews 11:1).
