The Prayer (Salah) is an indispensable daily ritual which is vital for the spiritual growth of Muslims. The prayer nourishes the soul and makes it subservient to the will of the Creator. The prayer also acts as a shield against impudence, vice and immorality. The book under review is about this great pillar of Islam. And if one asks, Is there a need for another book on Salah?, the author hastens to provide an answer in his Introduction, ‘Salah is the most important of all the acts of worship in Islam. It is what a Muslim’s daily routine revolves around. It is what maintains the vital connection between a Muslim and his Lord in his daily existence. It is what, as the Messenger of Allah (s) said, distinguishes a Muslim from a disbeliever. So, the more the number of books written on the topic of salah, the better it is for the ummah.’ The book is divided into two chapters, the first being the main component of the book containing instructions on the prayer while the second deals with auxiliary issues, such as meditation in the prayer and following scholarship (taqlid).
