In recent years, Abdul Kader Choughley, a South African scholar, has made a mark as the chronicler and analyst of the Islamic intellectual tradition, particularly of the Indo-Pak subcontinent. His area of expertise is Islamic resurgence in South Asia in the 20th century. Since Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (1913–1999) prominently figures among the Islamic revivalists in the region, it is not surprising that Choughley’s earlier works were Islamic Resurgence: Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi and his Contemporaries (2011) and Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi: Life and Works (2012). Ahsan Academy, headed by Choughley, has published also the intellectual biography of another leading Islamic scholar, From Darkness Into Light: Life and Works of Mawlana Abdul Majid Daryabadi (1892–1977).
